Jump Start: Where learning and camp collide!
Our summer Jump Start allows you to come to campus for a week, earn college credit, stay in the dorms, and participate in fun nightly activities. Your college class is even offered at a steep discount! Jump Start is available to those graduating high school in 2023, 2024, or 2025.

Cost Information
The cost for attending Jump Start is $250 for two-credit courses and $350 for three-credit courses. The Creation Apologetics course is $400. See course descriptions below for more details.
This cost includes:
- Tuition for two or three college credits
- All meals (Monday breakfast-Friday lunch)
- Dormitory lodging (supervised by adults)
This price does not include required textbooks. Estimated textbook costs range from $25-$105—depending on the Jump Start course.
Course Information

Creation Apologetics – 3 credits
This course seeks to implement the basic tools of critical thinking and logic in the careful consideration of the origins debate. The course combines an introduction to critical thinking with practical applications in defense of the Young Earth Creationist position on origins. Emphasis is placed on practical application. This class includes a field trip to the Omaha Zoo to experience first-hand the practical application of creation apologetics and critical thinking.
This class would be accepted as a Bible elective or general elective class at Faith.*
Mr. Carl Kerby and Dr. Juan Valdes
Mr. Carl Kerby and Dr. Juan Valdes are two of the most well-known experts in the world on the topic of creation. We are honored to have two brilliant speakers who travel the world speaking to groups and conferences. Even the famous actor, Kirk Cameron, has weighed in on Carl Kerby, stating, “Carl knows what he’s talking about and is able to teach others with humor, a quick wit, and solid scientific information.”

- Kerby, Carl D. Fascinating Facts Volume 1: Africa. Reasons for Hope, 2022. 133 pages. This book is a pocket guide containing information on 8 animals found on the continent of Africa. This information will be invaluable for future zoo and museum tours as well as personal opportunities to share the amazing creation that God has given us in the animal kingdom.
- Valdes, Juan. How to Think: A Crash Course in Critical Thinking. Reasons for Hope, 2018. 212 pages. This book is an introduction to Critical Thinking from a Christian perspective. It includes critical thinking principles, introductory formal logic, formal and informal fallacies, as well as Biblical examples of critical thinking. Available also in Kindle.
- Author: Various, Creation Basics & Beyond, 2nd Ed. Dallas: ICR, August 2020, 426 pages. This book presents a defense for Biblical Young Earth Creationism. The book demonstrates that not only does the scientific evidence not support evolution, but it also strongly confirms the Biblical account of creation.

Introduction to Literature – 3 credits
An introduction to some of the great works of literature, mostly in the western tradition. Short stories, poetry, drama, and novels will be examined in the context of the historical period in which they were written and the author’s philosophical and religious views.
Dr. Josh Boyd
Dr. Boyd holds a B.S. from Faith Baptist Bible College, an M.A. from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN), and a Ph.D. from Baylor University.

Introduction to Philosophy - 2 credits
An overview of the history of philosophy and a survey of philosophical topics. The course acquaints the student with the leading figures, terminology, and basic problems of philosophy. Solutions of the leading philosophical systems are compared, contrasted, and evaluated.
Dr. Paul Hartog
“Dr. Paul” has earned B.A., M.A., and M.Div. degrees in Biblical and Theological Studies (Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary); a Grad. Cert. in Global Ethics (University of Eastern Finland); an M.A. in History (Iowa State University); a M.L.I.S. in Academic Librarianship (University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee); a M.Th. in Ethics (St. Andrew’s Theological College); and a Ph.D. in New Testament and Early Christianity (Loyola University, Chicago).

New Testament Survey - 3 credits
A survey of the books of the New Testament, giving such points as the background of the book, keywords and verses, information about the author, date and circumstances of writing, theme, importance, features, and the high points of each book.
This class is required for all programs at Faith (1-year, 2-year, and 4-year).

Dr. Keith Kobelia holds his B.A., M.A., and M.Div. from Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary, a Th.M. from Central Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Bible Exposition from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Arrival: Check in Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Nettleton Center Foyer
Departure: Friday, June 30, 2023, after class ends (2:30 – 4:30 p.m. depending on the class). The week concludes after classes on Friday. We ask that students be picked up by 6 PM.

What textbooks will I need and how will I purchase them?
Required textbooks are listed below. Payment for textbooks is in addition to your course registration fee. You will need to arrange for your books in advance. You are welcome to purchase them on your own or you may purchase them through the Faith Bookstore.

Will I have homework?
Students can expect to have some homework to be due during the week of class and, for most classes, throughout the course of the summer possibly as late as mid-August. If you would like to find out more details on the homework assignments for a specific class, please contact us at guests@faith.edu.
Where will students be staying?
Students will be staying in the dormitories. We will have a staff member staying in the dorms as a Resident Advisor if they need anything. A bed is provided, but we ask that Jump Start students please bring bedding (pillow, sleeping bag, or sheet and blanket) and a towel.
What should I bring?
- Business casual clothing for class*
- Casual clothing for after class*
- Athletic clothing for some of the evening activities*
- Bedding
- Toiletries & towel
- Pen or pencil, paper, 3-ring binder, Bible, and your textbooks for class
- Optional spending money for the bookstore
Students are welcome to bring a laptop if they would like, but they will have access to a computer lab for any homework that requires a computer.
*We ask that Jump Start students abide by the Dress Code guidelines in Faith’s Student Handbook while they are on campus.
What is the dress code?
- Classroom dress is business casual. Business casual for young men consists of dress pants or khakis with a collared shirt. Business casual for young ladies consists of dress pants, khakis, or a skirt and a nice shirt. We ask that skirts reach the top of the knee when standing.
- During the afternoons and evenings, we invite students to dress casually and wear their jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc. We would encourage students to bring some athletic wear as well for some of our evening activities.
We ask that all clothing meet the guidelines in our Student Handbook.
Will I have to apply to Faith in order to take this class?
The Jump Start registration form contains the only application information that we need in order for you to take a Jump Start class for college credit . If you plan to attend Faith or want to take online classes in the future, you would need to complete the full application.
What are the health guidelines?
Health Guidelines
We ask that you evaluate your own health before coming to campus. In order to attend Jump Start, please ensure the following:
- You do not have any Covid-related symptoms (cough, headache, new loss of taste/smell).
- You do not have a fever in excess of 100.4-degrees.
- You have not been diagnosed with or been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with Covid in the previous 14 days.
