Fundamentals of Biblical Counseling and Discipleship

with Dr. Jeff Newman

Dates: August 19 – 23
1:00-6:00 PM

Encourage your members to join us for a special class
taught by Dr. Jeff Newman.

This course is a study of a Biblical philosophy and methodology of counseling and discipleship, as well as a practical approach to selected topics using the Word of God. Among the subjects considered are the qualifications of those involved in Biblical counseling and discipleship, a basic Biblical anthropology, the sufficiency of the Scriptures, the sufficiency of Christ, basic principles of progressive sanctification, the responsibility of the local church in Biblical counseling, and several crucial topics such as confession, repentance, forgiveness, anger, conflict, and helping those who suffer.

In addition, the student will be taught basic methods of counseling and discipleship including assisting him or her to:

  • Understand the character and role of relationship in counseling and discipleship
  •  Gather and interpret Biblically the details of people’s lives
  •  Have discipleship conversations with people to help them interpret and live their lives through the lens of the Bible
  •  Give structure and direction that provide people with encouragement and the opportunity to live life in its details with faith in Christ

Many churches have realized great benefit from bringing a group of ministry leaders to this class, using the class as both a training opportunity and a launching platform for ongoing conversation and ministry following the class. Here are insert options for your bulletin, a PowerPoint slide, and a sign-up sheet. Please return any completed sign-up sheets to Jordan Flinck by Monday, August 12, via e-mail or regular mail. Contact Jordan Flinck (flinckj@faith.edu) with any questions.
