Donovan’s Daughters Draws Large Crowds and Laughter

On Friday, April 16, 2021, the Faith Drama Club hosted a hilarious performance of Donovan’s Daughters. With both a matinee and an evening performance, over 500 people enjoyed the comedy, suspense, and romance of this turn-of-the-century story.

With a cast of 27 characters, the laughs were steady throughout the story. By all accounts, the audience was mesmerized by the quality of the student actors. The Nettleton Center was filled with laughter and applause throughout the evening as spectators watched their classmates, children, students, and friends perform this loose adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

Director Alyssa Hathcock, a graduating senior, has a desire to lead a drama troupe in the future, and she masterfully coached the ragtag cast of comics, clowns, and cut-ups. Lydia Trygstad provided steady leadership to cast and crew alike as the assistant director. Natalie Fry used her skills as a professional cosmetologist to lead a team of hair and makeup artists, while Anna Smith worked her magic on the 27 costumes. All in all, it was many people’s favorite drama performance! Faculty Producer Jared Baldwin recognized that “without the outstanding student leaders and tireless effort of the cast and crew, Donovan’s Daughters would never have happened.”
