Set against the vibrant, bustling backdrop of 1860s New York City, Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker tells a comedic, yet heartfelt story of foolishness and its consequences. Follow the vivacious Dolly Gallagher Levi, a spirited matchmaker, as she orchestrates a scheme to marry the gruff widower Horace Vandergelder, all while uniting unlikely couples along the way.
The Matchmaker presents a look at the chaos caused by following our deceitful hearts and the consequences of such foolishness. Through its characters’ misguided actions, the play offers both laughter and reflection, and invites its audience to reflect on the limits of human wisdom, which should point upward to seek wisdom from the Creator rather than their own hearts.
The Drama Department at Faith Baptist Bible College exists to create excellent productions that challenge the mind and reflect the truth of both the world we live in and the hope we have in Christ. We aim to equip students with tools to take the Word to the world by combining intentional discipleship in rehearsals with thoughtful selection of material that prompts critical thinking. We partner with local churches and schools to present performances that offer more than just entertainment, encouraging deeper conversations about life and faith. By building personal connections within the Ankeny community, we hope to create opportunities that foster relationship building and Gospel-centered conversations.
