For Faith Baptist Bible College alumnus Jeremy Smith, the trades aren’t just a job—they’re a way to serve.

Jeremy has spent the past 25 years serving with Continental Baptist Missions as a full-time missionary church builder. In his role as a lead builder—similar to a general contractor—he is involved in just about every aspect of the process, from laying foundations to finishing trim. Over the years, that has included everything from concrete and framing to roofing, drywall, painting, and even the occasional HVAC, electrical, or plumbing work.

Smith FamilyThrough all those experiences, one thing has become clear to him. There’s a real need for people in the trades right now. In his words, “What better way to gain that training than from a biblical perspective.”

Jeremy Smith Taping Drywall That’s exactly what makes Faith’s new Applied Trades program different. Yes, students will learn valuable, hands-on skills, but they will also be grounded in Scripture, surrounded by strong Christian friendships, and invested in through intentional discipleship.

They’ll learn from instructors who love the Lord and are ready to offer wisdom not just for the job, but for life.

Students also get a bigger-picture view of what trades can be. These aren’t just skills for a paycheck—they are tools that can be used to serve in a local church, support a family, step into bi-vocational ministry, or even open doors on the mission field.

Jeremy has seen that impact firsthand. He and his wife both graduated from Faith, and now two of their sons are current students on campus. As he puts it, “Our whole family has greatly benefited from attending the school, and it has helped prepare us for the ministries we’re involved in.”

His encouragement to students is simple: “No matter where God takes you with trades, you can use this knowledge for a full-time career, serving others in your local church, providing for the needs in your own home, and even full-time missions!”

At Faith, the trades aren’t just about building structures—they’re about building lives that serve.
