FAQ

Some of you may have a million questions running through your head about moving to campus!
To help you out, we have put together a list of frequently asked questions. This may answer all your questions or make you think of new ones.
Feel free to send us an email with any dorm or campus questions.
We want to help make your transition to life at Faith as easy as possible.

Q: What furniture is provided in each room?

Each student has his/her own bed, desk, dresser, and two bookcases.
The desk has a light for doing some late night studying.
You may want to bring a lamp (not halogen) to hook onto your bed if you like to read at night without keeping your roommate up with the main light.
No additional furniture may be brought into the dorms, with the exception of a small bookshelf, mini fridge, organizational drawer, or similar-sized item per person.

Q: Can I hang things on the wall?

It is always fun to personalize your room with things from home: a cork board, pictures, clock, etc.
You may use non-marking sticky tack and blue painter’s tape when hanging things on the walls.
Not allowed: Brad nails, 3-M tabs, pull tabs, wall stickers, command strips, or decals.

Q: When will I hear about my room assignment?

We are working hard to match you with your roommate and suitemates.
Room assignments are subject to change and do so frequently.
If you have a roommate request, please let us know as soon as possible.
While we cannot guarantee all requests, we do our best to honor as many as possible.
We will seek to have the room assignments out in August.

Q: Is there laundry available in the dorms?

Yes! Free laundry is provided on each floor of the dorm.
You will also want to bring a steamer or iron and ironing board to make sure you look sharp for class.

Q: What if I don’t have a computer?

Computers are available for all students to use in the dormitories, computer lab, Student Center, and library.
Printers are also available in the Student Center, library, dormitories, and computer lab.
Each student has a printing and copying account.
You are welcome to bring your own computer, laptop, tablet, and printer.
Note: Chromebooks and tablets are not recommended as your main school device since they are not compatible with all apps and platforms used in coursework.
Students can access and download Office 365® through their school email account.

Q: What kind of linens do I need?

Bring your own extra-long twin sheets and a waterproof mattress pad (required).
Also bring any bedspreads, blankets, and towels you want.
Shower curtain liners are provided.

Q: How can I receive mail from home while on campus?

You will receive a mailbox key in your orientation packet.
Use the school’s address (1900 NW 4th St. Ankeny, IA 50023) with your name or box number to receive mail.

Q: Where do I go when I arrive on campus?

Registration and Orientation are in Building #5 – the Nettleton Center.
It’s the largest building on campus and includes the gym, some classrooms, the Student Center, the bookstore, mailboxes, the Fitness Center, and the Student Life Department.

Q: What types of shops or food places are near campus?

Faith is only 7 miles from downtown Des Moines, so you’re not in the middle of nowhere.

Within 5–10 minutes, you’ll find:
Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, Caribou, Pancheros, Fazoli’s, Menards, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili’s, Applebee’s, Taco John’s, Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Culver’s, HyVee, Shoe Carnival, Michaels, Walgreens, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Cazador, Chipotle, Panda Express, Hu-Hot, Panera, IHOP, Subway, and more.
