Every year Faith Baptist Bible College recognizes one to three graduates with the Faithful Servant Award. Candidates for this award are nominated by someone who has been touched by their ministry. The many nominations are then passed to a committee who selects the individuals that have best embodied the college’s mission of taking the word to the world for at least thirty years. They receive a plaque and towel from the president of the college in celebration of their service during a special chapel hour dedicated to sharing their powerful testimonies. This year three couples received the Faithful Servant Award: Thomas and Dolores Bauder, John and Chris Runyan, and Timothy and Barbara Whatley.
Thomas and Dolores Bauder exemplify how God can use ordinary people for extraordinary purposes. In 1958, Dolores and Tom accepted Christ as Savior, leading to their lifelong commitment to serving the Lord. The Bauders became dedicated church members and eventually fostered 19 children. Though initially hesitant to pursue God’s call to ministry, Tom attended Faith Baptist Bible College, graduating in 1973. The Bauders served in pastoral ministry across several states, including Iowa, Wisconsin, and Florida. Tom continues to minister, care for Dolores, and offer advice. The Bauders’ legacy is one of faithfulness and dedication to the Lord.
John and Chris Runyan’s journey is a testament to God’s guidance and faithfulness. After graduation from Faith Baptist Bible College, the Runyans moved to Creston, Iowa, where John spent 3 1⁄2 years as a youth pastor. In 1985, they relocated to Emmetsburg, Iowa, to plant Grace Baptist Church. During their 17 ½ years in Emmetsburg, the Runyans adopted five daughters and saw God bless their church with steady growth. In 2001, God led them to Montevideo, Minnesota to plant Cornerstone Baptist Church. Pastor Runyan retired in January of this year, but God continues to use him in chaplaincy work, teaching, and preaching. The Runyans’ ministry is a powerful example of God’s provision.
Timothy and Barbara Whatley have dedicated their lives to serving God in Peru. Barbara, born in 1962 in Pueblo, Colorado, accepted Christ at sixteen, leading her entire family to faith. Tim and Barbara met through the ARRIBA missionary internship in Peru. After marrying in 1985, the Whatleys returned to Peru in 1989 under Baptist Mid-Missions, and focused on church planting, evangelism, and training local pastors. God has blessed them with seven children. The couple continues their ministry in Peru, with a focus on church leadership and outreach. Their lives are a testament to God’s faithfulness as they continue pointing Peruvians to Christ.
