ANKENY, Iowa—Hundreds of Faith students, faculty, staff, and fans braved the biggest winter storm of the season Friday evening to cheer on the Faith basketball teams and to honor several key individuals for their contributions to the gymnasium renovation project.

The evening was designated as a Gym Dedication Night and offered free admission, free pop and popcorn, and halftime competitions and prizes to all fans in attendance. Despite the inclement weather, a hearty crowd filled most of the gymnasium. Both the men’s and women’s teams competed well but came up just short against a pair of talented teams from Calvary University.

Between the women’s and men’s games, Dr. Jim Tillotson and Faith Athletic Director Brian Fincham took center court to recognize the donors of the wood for the gymnasium floor and Ankeny Christian Academy for the use of their gymnasium while construction was ongoing. A video was played, which included testimonials from current and former players who described the difference the new floor has made on their knees and backs. The video also detailed the renovation from start to finish and thanked the donors for their benevolence.

After the video was played, Dr. Tillotson presented plaques to Chris Baltzley, of Ron Baltzley Hardwoods, Inc., and Jonathan Hoffman, of Shade Mountain Forest Products, for their contribution of the wood and the milling of the gym floor. Brian Fincham thanked Ankeny Christian Academy Athletic Director Dave Walter for his school’s cooperation with gym facility sharing and awarded him a plaque as well. The ceremony concluded with a prayer of dedication by Dr. Les Ollila.
