On Tuesday, March 29, a group of 19 organizational leadership and two pastoral students visited the Iowa State Capitol. The day began with a presentation by The Family Leader Executive Vice President, Greg Baker, who gave a Biblical perspective from Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2 on how Christians ought to view and engage elected officials.

After an hour with Baker, the students had the privilege of touring the capitol building, including both chambers, the library, and the rotunda. Students were honored to spend one-on-one time with Iowa State Representative Jon Dunwell, Representative Danny Carroll, and State Senator Todd Taylor. Dunwell, a former pastor, explained to the group that ministry leaders are well-suited for the legislature because they have to work well with people and learn how to listen to the opposition.

The most precious and powerful moment of the day was a time of prayer spent with Dunwell as students took requests and closed the session in prayer for our government leaders. Overall, it was an eye-opening experience for most of the students, many of whom had never been inside the Iowa State Capitol. Faith Baptist Bible College and The Family Leader hope to make the tour an annual event.
