Move-in Day at Faith Baptist Bible College was as exciting as I had expected it to be. As a sophomore in student leadership, I had moved in several days before. Those early days had been spent cleaning up the campus, putting together hundreds of registration folders, forming balloon structures, and completing a million other tiny projects. Our goal was to make sure that everything ran seamlessly and looked perfect.
And by Thursday, move-in day, everything was ready.
By 10:30 I was out by the front entrance of the campus, watching as a stream of cars arrived for registration. I waved as they entered, pleased to find wide smiles and mirroring waves greeting me in response.
The energy was as high as it could be; I could almost feel it in the air.
An hour later, I returned to the main building. I looked on at the long line of excited freshmen that stood in a surprisingly orderly line, awaiting their turn to be checked in for the school year. Leadership was handing out registration folders by the dozens to the largest freshman class on record at Faith. My fellow leaders and I met the students out by the dorms, helping to carry in suitcases, boxes, and a host of personal belongings to their rooms. The hallways were packed, parents finishing up final details and rearranging rooms while roommates made their introductions.
In the afternoon, it was finally time to welcome back the returning students. I honestly couldn’t help but smile the whole time. Getting to see friends and familiar faces walk through the front doors of the campus was an experience like no other. In a way, I hadn’t really realized how much I had missed each and every one of them over the summer until right then.
Somewhere along the way, these people had become so much more than fellow students; they became family. Whether they were my close friends or not, those people walked through hard times with me, prayed for me when I was struggling, offered an ice cream run in the middle of January, and helped me study when classes got tough.
And now, the new school year offered us all a whole new opportunity to add more family to Eagle Nation. As I saw the students, both new and old, laughing and joking together in the dining hall, sitting around the fire pit, playing games out in the fields, and making memories over a coffee from the coffee shop, I realized that this was exactly where God wanted me to be.
And that knowledge is more valuable than all the money in the world.
There’s no place I’d rather be than Faith Baptist Bible College.
It’s going to be an amazing school year.
