Dr. Christopher Ellis Named as Chair of Music Department and Director of Choral Activities

Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary is excited to name Dr. Christopher Ellis as Chair of the Music Department and Director of Choral Activities upon the conclusion of Dr. Irv Van Hooser’s formal teaching ministry at the end of the 2018-19 academic year.

Chris graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College with a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Music in 2001, and from Faith Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Biblical studies in 2007. He earned his Master of Music Degree in Choral Conducting from St. Cloud State University in 2009, and a Doctor of Arts in Choral Conducting and Music Education from Ball State University in 2014.

Chris grew up as a missionary kid in Germany and participated in choirs for most of his life. After college, he began working full-time at Faith, serving in a variety of roles, including telecommunications, housing, online learning, and registrar. He has been active in musical activities in the church and community and served as the music director at Ankeny Baptist Church from 2003-11 and again from 2014 to present.

Chris and his wife, Mandy, were married in 2009 and have three children: Camden, Anya, and Aria.

“As a graduate of the music program at Faith, I am excited to continue the tradition of helping students sharpen their musical skills to be used for God’s glory, and to prepare musicians to lead in the musical ministry in local churches,” said Chris.
