ANKENY, Iowa–Since March 2016, Faith Baptist Bible College has welcomed to campus junior and senior high students participating in the annual MAACS Bible, Academics & Fine Arts Competition.

This competition, organized by the Mid-America Association of Christian Schools (MAACS), is designed to “allow Christian young people to develop disciplined skills in various areas of proficiency so that they might better serve the Lord throughout their lives.”

This year, we had over 500 students and school sponsors attend. With friends and family accompanying students, total attendance over the three-day competition approached 700 people. Participants represented fourteen school and homeschool groups from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and a few adjacent states. They arrived from multiple locations, but contestants had a unified desire to excel for God’s glory in their given categories.

As the title of the competition suggests, students competed in about 50 categories related to the Bible, academic subjects, and fine arts. A representative, not exhaustive, list includes competitions in Bible quizzing, preaching, choral and instrumental performance, public speaking, and visual arts.

In addition to offering students opportunities to showcase their God-given talents and the skills they are faithfully developing, the Bible, Academics & Fine Arts Competition allowed participants to get a glimpse of life on Faith’s campus. Many Faith students, faculty, and staff volunteered to help with check-in, coordinate rooms, judge competitions, or simply welcome and mingle with the hundreds of visitors. Since 2016, Faith and MAACS have enjoyed a partnership of mutual blessing. Lord willing, we will have the privilege to welcome an even larger crowd to campus in 2025.
