Mrs. Sandy Capon was born and raised in Bloomington, Minnesota. She was raised as a devout Lutheran and attended the same high school and church as her husband, Tim.

After Tim’s mother convinced him to ask her out (Tim says it was his orange Pinto with mag wheels that was the tipping point to her saying yes), the Capons dated several years and were married on April 30, 1977.

The Capons moved to the state of Washington in 1978, where Tim worked as a civil engineer. Their first daughter, Angela, was born there, and then God used a miscarriage to soften their hearts to the truths of the Gospel, before moving them on to the state of Alaska for work. It was in Alaska that a Baptist preacher named Cletis Leverrett knocked on their door and invited them to church. The Capons attended and eventually went forward for salvation.

During their time in Ketchikan, Alaska, a missionary couple from Iowa, who were graduates of Faith, visited their church. The Capons were burdened to go into full-time ministry at the time and were so impressed with the couple that they decided, “If these are the kinds of people that come from Faith Baptist Bible College, then that is where we need to go!”

The Capons moved to Ankeny and made a reassurance of their salvation during a Missions Conference at Faith. Sandy homeschooled their children while Tim finished his degree to become a pastor.

The Capons ministered at Bethany Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1986 to 1990, and at Faith Baptist Church in Carroll, Iowa, from 1990 to 2014. Pastor Capon became the IARBC state representative in 2014, and Sandy began working in the Faith Book Store, where she served faithfully for three years.

In August 2017, the Dean of Women position opened up at Faith, and there was one candidate at the top of the Faith administration’s wish list: Mrs. Sandy Capon.

Mrs. Capon accepted the role of Interim Dean of Women, and the interim tag was removed from the title during her first year. She has always loved the training and discipling of young women and the opportunity to invest in their lives. Mrs. Capon believes strongly in accountability and dealing with spiritual issues in grace and truth. She has touched the lives of countless women over the course of her lifetime of ministry.

Mr. and Mrs. Capon were trained for life and ministry right here at Faith Baptist Bible College. Sandy faithfully supported Tim’s life-changing decision to leave the secular business world and attend Faith so that they could serve the Lord in a full-time capacity.

Mr. and Mrs. Capon have been married for 33 years. They have three children (all Faith graduates) and ten grandchildren.

Pastor Capon said it was Sandy’s “engaging smile, delightful personality, moral character, and love for children” that initially attracted him to her. These are all characteristics we at Faith love as well.

Congratulations to Mrs. Sandy Capon, our 2019 Honorary Alumnus Award winner.
