Supplements and expands the student’s understanding of Greek grammar. The student will observe and discuss various syntactical constructions that occur in the New Testament. Time will also be devoted to an application of exegetical principles in a study of some of the shorter books of the New Testament. During the second semester the student will be introduced to a study of textual criticism and the application of one’s study of Greek in exegetical analysis. Throughout the course there is a strong emphasis on the practical and pastoral use of the Greek language in personal study and public ministry.

The Communications Capstone Project is the means by which students demonstrate competence in the practical application of communication principles. This project, which is due during the spring semester of the student’s senior year, is either (A) a substantial revision of a multimedia presentation that was completed as part of the coursework in the communications minor or (B) a digital portfolio that showcases a specified number of projects completed as part of the coursework in the communications minor. Both A and B options also include a narrative essay that reflects on the student’s growth in communication and reveals how the capstone project demonstrates competence in communication.

Introduction to building plans and specifications. This class will establish an understanding of construction management through documentation. The student will be exposed to, various building plans, building specifications, GANTT scheduling logic, submittal review process, contract and cost management, as-built documentation, and change order processes. By the end of this course the student will be expected to understand documentation associated with commercial construction and will be able to process this documentation with minimal supervision. This class will also emphasize positive ethical and spiritual characteristics from key leaders in the Bible. Construction Means and Methods I is an introductory class that will cover both classroom and lab time exposing students to construction processes and hands on application. This course will lay the fundamentals of site construction and building structures. This class will focus on transferring layouts from documents to the real world and will emphasize strengths and weaknesses of the structural elements in construction. This course briefly gives an overview of the historical and legislative foundations of programs of instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs), a comparison and evaluation of various types of program models for serving ELLs, and an analysis of how the role of culture and the transient nature of some populations influence student learning. It focuses on promoting positive behaviors through building supportive and nurturing relationships and environments. An integrated study of music fundamentals, introductory harmony, and aural skills, emphasizing a sound-to-symbol approach in which musical concepts are first encountered aurally and then reinforced through notation and analysis. Students develop fluency with pitch notation, clefs, scales, key signatures, intervals, triads, and seventh chords in root position and inversion, along with basic four-part writing, melodic elaboration, species counterpoint, and fundamental harmonic progressions. Emphasis is placed on smooth voice leading and melodic independence. Aural training is fully integrated and includes sight-singing of simple diatonic melodies (using movable-do solfège), rhythmic reading in simple meters, melodic and rhythmic dictation, and identification of intervals, triads, and seventh chords by ear. Students use notation software to complete short exercises and assignments.

A study of chromatic harmony and modulation within tonal music. Emphasis is placed on hearing and internalizing chromatic harmony and modulation prior to formal analysis and written application. Topics include applied dominants and secondary leading-tone chords, modulation to closely related and chromatically related keys, modal mixture, the Neapolitan chord, augmented-sixth chords, and chromatic sequences. Aural skills focus on recognition and dictation of modulating melodies, chromatic inflection, and harmonic progressions featuring secondary dominants, borrowed chords, and other chromatic harmonies. This course includes an examination of the historic distinctives of Baptist belief, with special attention given to the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper, especially as they differ from the beliefs and practices of other denominations. The course will also highlight the importance of the Baptist name and heritage in the contemporary pluralistic religious context. This course addresses some of the most dangerous cultural movements today that keep people from embracing Christianity. The course has two primary emphases. First, equipping the student to respond biblically and persuasively to the claims of Critical Race Theory, BLM, Gender Identity, and other LGBTQ+ issues, the Pro-Choice movement, and other belief systems that present themselves as obstacles to the Gospel. Second, helping the student gain confidence in the truth and relevance of the Gospel in the midst of tremendous cultural confusion. English Composition I immerses students in the world of academic writing by (1) introducing them to the college-level writing process and by (2) exposing them to a variety of professional essays that will serve as models of sophisticated and beautiful prose as well as means by which students will develop and hone critical reading skills. The first of these goals is accomplished by requiring students to write and revise several expository and persuasive essays. The second of these goals is accomplished by reading and analyzing several professional thought-provoking essays. Students will respond to these readings through informal and formal assignments. Students will write three to four papers and produce one multi-modal project as part of their coursework.

Students will read, analyze, and synthesize a variety of sources as they engage in academic research and writing.
